A Christmas Decoration

I created a little elf hanging decoration as part of the Christmas decoration swap on Teddy Talk.
He's 7 and 1/2 inches (11cm) tall, made of felt and stuffed with polyester. He has black English glass eyes and has been hand sewn.
He is currently winging his way to the USA, hopefully he'll arrive before Christmas, though judging by the snow it seems particularly unlikely.
Hopefully the recipient will get to see him this side of new year and enjoy him a little bit before he's squirrelled away ready for next Christmas.
A very merry Christmas and a happy new year to everyone :)

A Little 40th Birthday Gift

This is Edward, he stands at 4 1/2 inches tall has a blue bell, a blue ribbon and a little blue embroidered heart on his chest.
I made him recently for my mum's cousin's (does that make her my second cousin? I get very confused!) 40th birthday. He seemed to go down a treat, she loves collecting Pipkin Bears but they were a little out of my price range so I thought I'd make her one of mine.
He didn't turn out perfect - he's going to have to invest in a built up shoe as he seems to be suffering from one leg shorter than the other! But I don't mind, his face turned out okay :)
Well, I'm going to start my next one now!

Amelia

I've finally gotten round to finishing my latest bear!

Meet Amelia...

She's 4.5 inches tall, has a handmade skirt embroidered with purple hearts, english glass eyes, a pink headband with a bow on and a heart embroidered on his chest.

What do you think?

There's Nothing Better Than Farmyard Eggs

I've finally gotten round to blogging about my farmyard egg cozies.
They're made of felt and embellished with beads and different colours of thread.
I wanted to make them bright and colourful to cheer myself up on dreary days, much like today has been; I miss the sun already!
There are four different animals in the farmyard set; a pig, a chicken, a cow and a sheep.

I've just got the cats to make for the pet egg cozy set and then I'll post the finished pictures.

Rabbits, Eggs and Oscar

Meet Oscar...

He's made of a faux fur fabric, which I've distressed using sandpaper to make him look very well loved.
I've also decided that a red embroidered heart on the chest of my bears is how people will tell them apart from the bears of other artists because they're just too small for fabric labels!

I was going to make him a tatty green jacket before posting on my blog, but unfortunately I'm having a wee bit of trouble creating a pattern; my dressmaking skills are not up to scratch I'm afraid!

In other news...

Check out my egg cups!
Aren't they just the sweetest little things you've ever seen? I can think of little else nicer to hold my hot boiled eggs than two very cute bunny rabbits.

A Spring In My Step

Today has been a gorgeous, sunny, spring day. So gorgeous, in fact, that I dug deep into the darkest corners of my chest of drawers and turfed out my summer clothes.

I decided I'd make the most of the sun, so I did my bear making in the garden and thought I'd take some pictures to get everyone in the springtime mood.

Please excuse my extraordinarily disorganised sewing box, it's too small now for all of my threads, pins, needles and other sewing bits and bobs, I can't even get the lid shut anymore!

Spring would not be Spring without daffodils and tree blossoms and I simply couldn't resist snapping a few shots of those too, so here's a selection of the best.

All this fresh Spring air has got the creative cogs of my mind whirring, so i must get back to my sketchbook.

Bunny Rabbit Egg Cozies

Easter is fast approaching so I thought I'd make some fun egg cozies for Easter morning; I never manage to eat my eggs whist they are dippy and hot!

These two little bunnies are hand stitched and made of felt, with black seed beads for eyes and threads for whiskers.

I'm in the process of designing some chicken egg cozies next, so expect to see those on here soon.

Love Birds

I originally designed these cards for valentines day, but I haven't put any messages on them so they could also be for the birthday of a loved one or an anniversary etc.
They're hand painted with watercolours and designed by me. They come in three colours, pink, blue and yellow all on white or cream card.

Mug Cozy

I've always had a problem with keeping my cups of tea warm. I leave it for a bit intending to wait until it's cool enough to drink and before I know it, an entire hour has passed and I'm left with cold tea.
So, I decided to make a mug cozy, with velcro on the side so it can be adjusted to suit the handle of the mug.
No longer will I have to suffer drinking microwaved tea!

Shakesbear - But Clotheless

This is Shakesbear, the latest bear I've made.
He's of my own design and will have Elizabethan clothing and an earring in one ear (like Shakespeare did)
He's made a nice soft short mohair and has replica boot button eyes.
I'm currently working on a design for a rabbit for Easter, so watch this space.

Scented Decorative Hearts

I love floral patterns and I love hearts, so I decided I'd combine the two.
These hearts have cross stitch patterns on the front, a wooden button and hang by a length of leather string.
I stuffed them with polyfill and scented them with lavendar.
I think they'd look good hanging from a bedroom door, or a wardrobe door, or any room really that needs a bit of love!

Wilfred

This is Wilfred, the teddy bear I made from the Wilf kit at bearbasics.
He has a pleasant face with a long muzzle and a little hump on his back, commonplace in a lot of the old steiff bears which were modelled from real bears.

I plan next on making "Shakesbear", of my own design, who will be dressed in Elizabethan clothing.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

Cards By Candlelight

I designed these cards for valentines day.
On the left is a watercolour bear, based on a Steiff teddy bear, holding a rose made of ribbon and wire.
In the centre is a rose petal paper vase with a ribbon on the front with ribbon roses on wire behind it.
On the right is a watercolour tree covered in ribbon roses with two watercolour lovebirds perched on the top.

Red Kite Bookmark

This bookmark is made of a woven ivory card, with a watercolour teddy bear and kite and a wire connecting the two.
Inspiration for this design came whilst watching the Beatrix Potter film starring Renee Zellweger. There's a moment where she's walking along a windy hilltop in the Lake District and I thought it would be a perfect place for a teddy bear to fly his kite!
The book featured is Teddy Bears: A complete collectors guide by Sue Pearson, published by Miller's.

First Post

Hello everyone!
I am a creative soul and have found myself with a bit too much time on my hands and so have begun handmaking cards, gifts and other pretty things that no-one needs, but like to have.
I will shortly post some pictures of work I have done and I would love to hear any comments anyone has.
Also if you make similar things, I'd love to hear from you.
